LONE STAR LEGAL AID (LSLA) Every 2nd Wednesday of the Month Wednesday, September 8th from 10:00 am to 3:00 pm LSLA is a large, regional law firm who assists low income persons and families with civil legal problems. They only work with civil cases, and do not handle criminal cases. Attorneys and a paralegal from LSLA will be available at the FBCIL to see consumers on a first-come-first-serve basis. All information shared with LSLA staff is strictly confidential. GULF COAST WIPA EMPLOYMENT WORKSHOP Tuesday, September 7th from 2:00 pm to 4:00 pm Let's get to work. Learn how Social Security rules and other resource can help you go to work without jeopardizing your benefits. This presentation will feature members of the HCIL Work Incentives Planning Assistance team. They will inform you of your options and opportunities for employment. Join us for this informative session! STAND UP AND BE HEARD SELF ADVOCACY WORKSHOP SERIES Wednesday, September 29th from 2:00 pm to 4:00 pm No one knows what you need or want more than you. Self Advocacy is the ability to speak-up for yourself and the things that are important to you. Learn techniques on how to effectively self advocate during this round table, interactive session with the staff of FBCIL and other consumers. Join us for a lively, productive session where you can stand up and be heard! Every last Wednesday of the Month! SEWING/QUILTING CLASSES Formation Meeting ~ Tuesday, September 14th from 1:00 pm to 3:00 pm and Tuesday, September 21st from 1:00 pm to 3:00 pm Several consumers have asked about having sewing and/or quilting classes and we have heard what you wanted. The formation meeting to start up our classes and determine interest will be held Tuesday, August 17th from 1:00 p.m. to 3:00 pm. We have sewing machines available as well as sewing/quilting supplies. Come join us and let's do some planning! MOVIE AND GAME DAY Friday, September 24th from 11:00 am to 4:00 pm Want to have fun, watch a movie, play games and interact with others? Come see old friends or meet new ones? Join us for fun on the last Friday afternoon of the month. Refreshments will be served. DAILY AND WEEKLY EVENTS T.O.P.S. WEEKLY CHAPTER MEETING Every Tuesday in September from 10:30 am to 12:00 noon We have begun a T.O.P.S. Chapter at FBCIL. Cost is $27.50 per year with no weekly/monthly fees. Join us in our quest to lose weight sensibly. Take Off Pounds Sensibly was founded in 1948 with the philosophy that the best way to lose weight, achieve wellness and maintain a healthy lifestyle is by incorporating a balanced diet, regular exercise and continued support and encouragement. CONSUMER INDEPENDENT LIVING SERVICES Monday through Friday from 8:00 am to 5:00 pm Appointments are requested but not necessary The Fort Bend Center for Independent Living services include but are not limited to: peer support, individual and systems advocacy, information and referral to available resources, independent living skills training to make it easier for people with disabilities to participate in the community and much more! Men Of Vision and Empowerment Gather with peers to discuss various topics and issues of mutual interest and concern. Seize the opportunity to share your vision and empower one's self and others! We are looking for women who are eager to share their Earth-moving ideas with others! Join Independent Living Specialist Gretchen Stockstill on the 3rd Thursday of every month THURSDAY, SEPTEMBER 16TH from 2:00-4:00 pm. On August 19th, Beth G.
